summer is here
i didn't exactly break my toe, i don't think. it turned all purple and i still don't walk quite normally. but i can still play drums!
which is good, because we have lots of shows in the next two months. including some wicked house shows, a "battle" show, a weekend playing in palm springs, and an in-store at Origami Records (where we'll be playing with stripped down instrumentation). and if you haven't seen us in a while, we are playing rad new songs... check that shit out.....

LET THE NIGHTMARE BEGIN
we just released a new 7" vinyl called "let the nightmare begin" on Mookie Dog Records. for the collector types out there, the pressing information is as follows:
500 copies
all on clear vinyl
all hand numbered
now, even though this record was just released, the material is quite old. in fact, both songs on side A were written and recorded before the williams brothers joined the band. back then (circa 2003-04), NTG consisted of wilton and brian working together in wilton's home-built studio in san antonio (RIP hillwood). so, the drums on side A were played by friends brought in as, basically, studio musicians.
side B is also older material, but recorded after the NTG line-up you know and love today finally assembled. "obelisk" was a short lyrical thing written by brian. when we decided it needed to be recorded and included on "let the nightmare begin," it fell on tyler to compose some ambient keyboard shit to give it the creepy, bleakly futuristic vibe it needed to properly compliment brian's ominous spoken lyrics. following "obelisk" is "more." this was also a song written before jay & tyler joined the band, however it was fleshed out by the brothers and recorded by jakob grossman in 2006, again at wilton's hillwood studio. i (jay) was nervous going into this recording session because i had just come out of a cast on my right wrist, so it was still pretty weak and stiff. but, i pulled through it and it turned out pretty damn good.oh and that insane cover art? we used to practice at this old warehouse on fredricksburg near downtown san antonio. it was full of old, weird, dusty crap. we found this picture and immediately knew we had to do something with it. look at the picture....."let the nightmare begin"........it just fits.
so there you have it. oh, wait...you DON'T have it? then come to a show and BUY IT!

back to LA
we had a blast at our two homecoming shows in San Antonio. thanks to girl in a coma, faith, joy, sam's burger joint, the warhol, buttercup, cartographers, lone star beer, zack sokolowski, my dad, my mom, my dogs, all our old SA friends, las salsas and taco sensations. the warhol show ended with the audience all crammed on the stage with us dancing and causing general mayhem. easily the funnest show we've ever played. and thanks to marco and mookie dog records for releasing our 7" entitled "let the nightmare begin". it looks and sounds amazing. Los Angeles, we've got two shows at L'KEG at the end of this month. come on out and buy a 7" !
