Also playing will be SHOOT FOR THE STARS AND KILL THEM, COMA IN ALGIERS, AND I KILL CARS! So fuck your hangover. Oh yeah and bring your leftover fireworks.

  3. New song posted!

Right now in the SONGS section section you can listen to "American Phantom" from our forthcoming release on Mookie Dog Records. Put it on your Ipod, put it on your myspace, share it with your friends, fuck to it. Or if your name is Tone...take drugs to it. It's proof that we really have been busy while taking a break from playing live. See you all soon.

  4. Whats up, Mookie Dog?

We are proud to announce that Mookie Dog Records will be issuing our next CD! We are still in the process of recording the album so don't expect a release date until later in the year. Mookie Dog is a Texas based label run by two dudes who love music. AND - they are now distributed by No Idea, which means national distribution for Not The Government is imminent. Check out their website to see all the other cool stuff they've put out.

The local website "21inSA" took some pictures at the show we played at Rock City back on June 29th. There are some pictures from each band that played that night, including yours truly. Check it out right here, mate. But only IF YOU ARE 21! This website hates you if you are not an adult!!!!

  5. I need to be entertained too

Tonight is the night Muldoon says goodbye.
Tonight is the night we unleash the tiger.
    Tonight get there early.

  6. Later Muldoon.....

Hey! Our next show is also MULDOON's last show ever. Yes, it is true. It was only a matter of time before Lawrence's penchant for gambling on nude clown races (and not to mention Jerid's rabid taste for high-grade elephant anesthetics) ripped the band apart. So........GO.

  7. whoa......a show.......

We'll be creeping out of our respective crevices, nooks, and crannies to play a show on Friday September 8th with those sexually confused men of MULDOON. It's all going down at your favorite nazi prison camp: the Sanctuary! Check the shows page for all the gruesome details.

  8. I've got a bike...

We'll be laying low from playing locally for a bit, we figured showering Big Soy / the audience with toys and doll clothing at Rock City was a pretty cool way to go out. We'll be focusing on finishing up some recording projects we've been busy with (more on that later). Oh and Syd Barrett died today, so go listen to "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn" or the Television Personalities song "I Know Where Syd Barrett Lives."

  9. I feel bad, but I'm a good shot

We have two shows in a row at the end of June. We just signed on to play June 30 at Ruta Maya (107 E Martin) with Reader, Attractive & Popular, and God Stewart. Check the shows page for all the delicious details on both shows. Oh and Kelly posted some new pictures from the 666 show on the Myspace group. Go dig on them, you just might see yourself.

  10. Recovery

Thanks to everyone who came out and made the 666 show so much damn fun. Livin' and Crotch On Fire were both excellent, DJ Epsr provided the best between-band music / ambience i've ever heard, and Full Blown Aids was basically a 10 minute riot which left us bloody and confused.

The next show we will be playing is on Thursday June 29 alongside Austin's AM Syndicate and San Antonio dudes Big Soy and Fin Del Mar. Where? Rock City Bar off Blanco and it's all ages!

  12. WHAT A WEEKEND WE HAD

    Here is the wrap-up:

Austin: It's true - you really can do anything at the Tillery. Thanks to Grace & The Grackles for making this show happen.

Alice: Never happened. Our van was having some serious over heating issues and about half way to Alice it gave up entirely, leaving us partying in the darkness alongside I-37 for pretty much the entire night as our friend Kelly drove back to San Antonio to get Brian's truck, which we then used to somehow miraculously tow the van with some crappy nylon rope we found. There was maybe four feet between the two vehicles, it was quite nerve wracking. We made it all the way into the southside of San Antonio before it finally snapped and we had to call a real tow truck for the rest of the journey.

San Antonio: After about 4 hours of sleep we woke up, distributed the equipment into other vehicles and drove to the Buttercup show, which was excellent. Thank you Buttercup for setting up a sweet show and I hope we weren't too loud for the normal bar patrons. Actually, I do hope that! HAHA! LONG LIVE ROCK! After that we dashed over to Sanctuary for the late show. Thanks to Communal Death Duck and Grace & The Grackles for traveling from out of town and making the show so sonically enjoyable.

Overall it was an exciting and exhausting weekend. Next up: 666 show next Tuesday! See ya there.

  13. Show Updates

The weekend is almost upon us! We've been preparing like crazy: assembling CDs, printing shirts, spray painting stickers, and, most importantly, rehearsing the 4 brand new songs we will be playing live for the first time ever.

Here are a few band additions to some our upcoming shows (for full listing of upcoming shows, check the SHOWS PAGE) :

6/26 Austin @ Tillery Art Space: Our pals and fellow San Antonians NARWHALS will be joining the bill. Also, to avoid confusion there is an early hardcore show which starts at 5pm, which will be followed by our "late" show.

6/28 San Antonio @ Sanctuary: Brother & sister freak-out-rock-and-roll duo ROBO TRUMBLE will open the show.

6/6/06 San Antonio @ Wiggle Room: SA scene veterans BOXCAR SATAN have joined the bill and apparently will be showing horror movies after the show. Excellent.

Also, any friends who want to celebrate Tyler's completion of high school by drinking whiskey all Thursday night until dawn should get in touch!

  14. 4 SHOWS IN 3 DAYS

    Buttercup show announced!

Buttercup have invited us to play their CD release show on Sunday May 28 along with Hyperbubble! The show will be held at Beethoven's Mannechor, which is on the corner of Pereida and South Alamo, in Southtown. It's a restaurant/beer garden with lots of exotic German beers if that's your thing, but don't worry - it's ALL AGES! Cost is $6 or $15 if you want to pick up a copy of Buttercup's brand new album "Hot Love." Be there or we will hunt and kill you.

For those of you paying attention, this means we'll be playing two shows in one night! If you go to both you'll hold a special place in our hearts(plus we won't hunt and kill you). Check the shows page for more information.

  15. A NIGHT OF EVIL

    666 show announced

It will be 100 years until another 6.6.06 rolls around, and by then you and everyone you love will be DEAD... so why not celebrate all that is unholy by partying with NOT THE GOVERNMENT, FULL BLOWN AIDS, LIVIN', AND CROTCH ON FIRE?! All the evil will be going down at the Wiggle Room on Tuesday 6.6.06. Be there or be Christian.

    Don't forget the goat's blood.

  16. Let's make it a weekend...

    Austin show announced!
We'll be playing the Texas capital for the first time on Friday May 26 with Grace & The Grackles! The show will be at 423 Tillery (near E. 5th and Tillery) which is a new all ages warehouse space. According to Wade from G&G "you can do whatever the fuck you want there." We couldn't ask for a better venue for our Austin debut. Stay tuned for more details...

  17. We promise its not a NAMBLA meeting

Calling all Not The Government fans!
We need your help. We are currently in the studio working on a project that requires a choir of voices between the ages of 9 and 12. Some singing ability is required, although coaching will be provided. The lyrics are posted in parenthesis at the end of the song called "More" on the Lyrics page. The recording session will be on the North East side of San Antonio, some time during the first week of May. So ask your little brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins, if they would like to be forever immortalized on a rock and roll record. Parents or guardians are welcome of course to stay with the children through the entire session. Cheese and pepperoni pizza will be provided. If interested get in touch on the Contact page or email NotTheGovernment@hotmail.com

    Back in San Antonio!
My wrist is no longer fractured and we're ready to rock again. The show will be held on the dancefloor at Sanctuary on Sunday May 28 and will also include Narwhals and Grace and the Grackles from Austin. Go to their site, play the song "Mary" and tell me it doesn't stick in your head all god damn week.

  18. FORCES OF NATURE

Shirts can now be ordered from this website for $10 post-paid. However, please note that we don't have Youth Small or Youth Medium just yet, they are in the process of being made. Check it out right here. Or you can all get one when we start playing shows again, which will be the end of May.

On the Songs page in the "Rotating Random Song" category we've added "Forces of Nature" which actually isn't even a real song, but rather a piece of one... an as of yet unreleased one at that. It will all make sense one day.

  19. Website Updates

Two songs from our latest 5 song EP are now available as mp3s in the Songs section. Those being "Palm of the Atheist" and "Amnesia Catharsis." You can also download "Gorgeous Gorgon" from our first EP. And as a special bonus, only available on this website - "Martin 101," a tune inspired by adventures in the 10-story abandonned building in downtown San Antonio which you can find at....101 Martin Street. The cops have put a huge fence around the best access point, so good luck.

Also, there are now some dark secrets lurking around this website, tread carefully my friends...

  20. Alice beware

We'll be visiting Alice, TX on Saturday May 27. Anyone in the Alice area who likes to fucking rock should come to the Downtown Riot to check out the show which will also include Narwhals, Spineless Little Worms, and Communal Death Duck. And save your allowances because we just printed up some sweet t-shirts. Now you can show how you're down for the cause by stretching our logo across your breasts.

  21. Get the new CD @ Hogwild

We had a long, hard rocking weekend: playing with Minus The Bear, partying after Minus The Bear, recording studio time, raking leaves to earn more recording studio time, setting off fire alarms at bars, and getting those sweet, sweet latin grammys. That's just what we're IN to.

What was the point of this update? Oh! Right! The new CD is now available at Hogwild Records (1824 N. Main St.) for the sum of $4.95. Tell all your friends.

  22. Menos El Oso anoche

We hope to see everyone (who can afford it) at the Minus The Bear show tonight. We'll be going on around 9pm on the main stage. Pick up our new CD and a sweet one-of-a-kind sticker for only $4!!!!

Oh, and did anyone hear us on the radio on Wednesday night? Thanks to Stoker J for having us once again. We were only on for one hour but I think we delivered some damn HITS in our allotted time: Juicy Bananas, Anal Cunt, Iggy Pop, Minus The Bear, Nick Cave, and of course...not the government (the Nancy Sinatra remix, I assure you, we had nothing to do with).

  23. Not The DJs

Tune your radio dials to KSYM 90.1 FM (or stream live at ksym) on Wednesday March 15 at 9pm for two solid hours of our antics. We're not playing live this time around, instead we'll be guest DJing and just generally hanging out on air with Jeff aka Stoker J. We'll be playing tracks from our brand new 5-song CD as well as some of our favorite songs by other artists (perhaps some acoustic Anal Cunt? hmmm...).

And in case you're wondering, the new CD will be available for all to purchase at the Minus The Bear show. (Pssst....or you can order it through this very website!)

  24. Sweet weekend!

Our weekend on the road with the Muldudes was excellent. Thank yous are in order for Jerrid and the rest of the Muldoon gang for making it all happen, all the other bands who played, the familiar faces who traveled just to see us (yvonne, kelly, myriam, kathryn, nicky tone, brittany, erika), and our new friend curtis (and his sweet fisherman crash house complete with all night seaside trampoline sesh and wicked shark fishing stories). No thanks to Jay's fractured wrist which will be going into a real cast on Friday, which means the Minus The Bear show will also be played one-handed. So be sure to be there for the freak show.

Advance tickets are $12.50 at Hogwild Records and The Rock Box or online at www.detourtickets.com.

  27. Updates for all

So what's been up with us, you ask? We've been preparing the artwork for our next release, a 5 song self-recorded CD, which we'll be releasing quite soon. We've also been hiding out in the bleak urban-sprawled wasteland of Schertz, TX to record our first studio produced album which you will all see and hear sometime later in the year.

As for our more immediate future, we are preparing for our weekend out with Muldoon. Well, we were preparing for it, until Jay fell off a longboard and sprained his wrist. But all should be healed and ready to rock by the time the 24th rolls around.

  28. Prepare for mega show!!!

Atomix is done for. So, the Saturday February 4th show has been relocated to the Black Lion. The bill also includes Red Leaves (austin), Visitors (austin) & Big Soy. What makes this a mega show? The fact that another show is also happening at the Black Lion that very night with Hollowpoint, Wholesale Piracy, Strikes Back, Dance Like Robots and Starving The Artist. Apparently this show's original venue fell through too. Both shows on both stages are ALL AGES and cover should be CHEAP. By the way thanks to Pop Pistol and Black Lion dudes for setting up a sweet show last night, and thanks to all who came out and enjoyed it with us. You are all fantastic.

  29. New show, new club, new lyrics

Looks like the next show will be at the newest all ages club in town: The Black Lion on Thursday, January 26. We'll be performing alongside Skullening, Narwhals, Lymbyc System, and Pop Pistol. The Black Lion is located at 2411 Broadway and is BYOB.

Now you can read the lyrics to every Not The Government song ever! Even songs you've never heard (but will eventually)! Just check the Songs section and click on Lyrics.

  30. Mouth reacharound?

Well, everyone in the Not The Government camp survived this year's New Year's Eve celebrations and we hope you all did as well. 2006 is looking good already...

Fin Del Mar have invited us to play with them this Saturday January 7 at The Mix, San Antonio's epicenter of scene hipness. Music starts at 11pm and it's FREE. Apologies to anyone underage, for this is a 21+ show (which we generally tend to avoid). However, EVERYONE will be able to come out to Atomix on Saturday February 4, when we will be performing alongside Big Soy! More details concerning this show will be posted when they become available.

And while you're at it, why not make this Saturday a double header? There is an early all ages show happening at San Antonio's newest record store, 180 Grams, with two awesome bands: Dallas' The Strange Boys and San Antonio's Skullening. The show starts at 8:30pm and is free, with free beer. 180 Grams is located at the corner of San Pedro and Magnolia. Both bands as well as 180 Grams deserve your support! And afterwards head down the street to the Mix where we will be waiting to rock you.

One last note: the venue for the Corpus Christi show has changed! The new club is called the House Of Rock and is located at 511 Starr St. Let's hit the beach.
