Not The Government began as two men, Brian Lieb and Wilton James, working out meticulous compositions in Wilton’s home studio. But studio work only wasn’t enough. These men needed a real rock and roll band…a true rock and roll beast! So drummer Jay Williams and his brother Tyler on keyboard were soon assimilated into the fold. The band spent the summer of 2005 writing new songs in a sweltering practice room next to a homeless bunkhouse near downtown San Antonio.
The beast was publicly unleashed on Aug 3, 2005 in the cramped confines of Jay’s living room in front of 50 or so friends and assorted misfits. The night was filled with rock and roll, smoke bombs and blood; surely a sign of all that the future holds for Not The Government. By the end of 2005 Not The Government had released a 3 song CD and shared the stage with some of the best and most diverse bands from around Texas including ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, Loraxx, Skullening, Big Soy, Girl in a Coma, The Mechanical Walking Robotboy & With All Sincerity. This beast has no plans of slowing, let alone stopping. Oh, and what do they sound like? I don't know...that's your job.
